Horror film has become the most popular genre film. Many researches indicate its importance in film history. Nowadays, the number of typical Hollywood horror films is growing, but there's another trend that you can't deny in horror film industry, that is the remake of classical horror film or non-Hollywood horror film. Therefore, audience would compare the original version with the remade one and find many differences. After 90s, the success of The Ringu brought another stream of horror film. The remade version of The Ringu, The Ring also hit the blockbuster. However, the ghost's image in both versions is totally different. This paper uses the signification system in Roland Barthes' myth on semiology to analyze how the cultural elements affect the ghost's image. And the purpose of the paper is to find out the relation among culture, semiotics and horror films.
